Braised Red Cabbage


1 kg red cabbage

1lb eating apples (Braeburn or Gala)

1 clove of garlic or 1 tsp of garlic granules

¼ whole nutmeg freshly grated

¼ teaspoon of cinnamon

3 tbsp of red wine vinegar

2 tbsp of soft brown sugar

3 knobs of unsalted butter

Pinch of salt

Cooking Instructions

Finely slice the red cabbage, discarding the hard white centre.

Peel and slice the apples.

Add all of the ingredients to a large casserole dish with lid , add a splash of water.

Put the lid on and cook for 2 hours at 150 degrees.


Make ahead and freeze or refrigerate until needed.
