Philosophy

At Smith & Clay, we’ve always put local produce and ingredients at the heart of what we do, because we’re passionate about championing and promoting locally produced food to all of our customers, pubs, restaurants, bistros and shops. It’s one of the reasons we were voted the UK’s National Butchers Champion by the Countryside Alliance.

We always go the extra mile to maintain our high standards of sustainability, welfare and provenance across all our meats and produce, and are only one of a handful of UK Butchers to have achieved gold certification in traceability.

We couldn’t do what we do without the relationships we’ve built throughout the local area. From our family farm on the Newbottle Estate, Purston Lamb and Wicken Pork to all of the other farmers, bakers, growers, brewers, producers, cheesemakers and bee-keepers who fill our shelves and fridges with the freshest of ingredients.

We always want to give our customers the best and tastiest produce, so we believe it needs to be local. It’s the principle we were founded on and remains the focus and foundation of our business today.
