Buckingham update

What’s happening at the old Clays site I hear you ask!

Despite appearances from the outside there is a lot of activity going on behind the scenes. After speaking to a number of slaughter men that worked in Clays over the last 50 years or so, we learnt a lot about the history and goings on in the old shop. These amazing men had some great stories to tell and a wealth of knowledge about the secrets of the site. We then stripped out the old cladding to reveal all the features, hidden windows and doorways to allow us and the AVDC Listings Officer a chance to have a good old look at the building. Along the way we discovered A LOT of asbestos, which has now been safely removed, and a cellar that hasn’t seen the light of day for more than 30 years. Thankfully there were no skeletons, just a lot of rubble!

Now we have stripped it all back we are working closely with all the people in the know to design something that is sympathetic to the buildings history. We have a whole team of experts involved to make sure Buckingham gets the butchers and delicatessen it deserves. Because there have been a few surprises along the way it has meant that we have had to push back our planned opening to Spring next year, we are as disappointed as you but it has to be done right to do it justice.

We promise not to be so long in updating you of the progress next time!
